SPC Sustainability Roadmap
Losee Consulting, working through Amec Foster Wheeler, developed a roadmap for energy and water reductionsProject
SPC Australia, formerly SPC Ardmona, is Australia’s largest, premium-packaged fruit and vegetable company and is owned by Coca-Cola Amatil. The company invested heavily in transforming its operations and reduce its energy and water intensity.
Solution
Through Amec Foster Wheeler, Scott Losee led development of a sustainability roadmap, including a technology stream and a behavioural (culture) stream. Amec Foster Wheeler engineers reviewed the opportunities for reducing energy, water, and trade waste, proposing a roll-out of investments over five ‘clusters’.
Scott convened a management workshop in Shepparton and adapted a social marketing approach to target behaviours, barriers, and benefits. A goal for the first cluster on the roadmap was to include ‘early, quick wins’, such as LED lighting and pipe insulation. This would not only build momentum but increase understanding and ownership by managers and plant operators.
The roadmap has proven to be a valuable tool to communicate the sustainability program.
