The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC), a Government Business Enterprise owned by the Commonwealth of Australia, manages an 8,500 km network transporting 200 Mt of freight annually.

Adopting a corporate ESG Strategy, including a greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction target, ARTC partnered with Losee Consulting to formulate a GHG Reduction Plan.

The plan involved presenting, reviewing, and confirming ARTC’s emissions profile, establishing an emissions intensity baseline, and outlining short-term actions for a 10% reduction by 2024. Additionally, a roadmap for net zero by 2050, with a potential 50% reduction by 2030, was developed.

Our approach included interviews with key ARTC personnel to shape strategies and actions for immediate and long-term implementation.

The resulting plan contributed to ARTC’s 2022 ESG report, prompting scrutiny of scope 3 emissions and contemplation of a net zero strategy, reinforcing the commitment to a sustainable future.
