480 Queen Street Climate Adaptation Plan
Applied meteorological analysis, risk assessment, and adaptation pathways to a 31-storey office tower as part of a Green Star Innovation ChallengeProject
Grocon was building a 31-level premium office tower in the Brisbane CBD. It sought a 6-star Green Star rating and undertook various Innovation Challenges. The Adaptation and Resilience Innovation Challenge encouraged project teams to assess likely impacts of climate change and show how buildings can respond to them.
Solution
Cundall and Grocon engaged Losee Consulting to conduct a climate change risk analysis. Meteorology partner Katestone contributed a climate review in preparation for the assessment and Scott Losee facilitated a risk workshop, drawing on AS 5334-2013. Participants included engineers, architects, and project managers who collaborated to identify risks and possible mitigating actions.
Scott modified the adaptation pathways concept for a single building and the building development was modified in several ways to make it more resilient. 480 Queen Street achieved its 6-Star Design rating, and the Green Building Council approved the climate resilience Innovation Challenge.
