Can my website be clean and green?

To my delight, I discovered that I could have a green website, and not just by changing the background colour.

I was unsure how to establish a website at all, but a colleague, Andrew Aitken, spelled out what to do.

Andrew has been a key figure in green buildings in Australia for many years and is currently an Executive Director of Livable Housing Australia. He pointed me to HostPapa and I suspect it was not by accident that they are:

Deeply committed to the world we live in. It only makes sense that we all do our part to keep the planet healthy for ourselves and those that come after us.

HostPapa promotes the development and use of wind and solar energy by purchasing green energy certificates to offset all the power they use in their data centres and offices.

Turns out there are plenty of other providers with similar standpoints, such as Digital Pacific. The Green WebHost site identifies a range of choices.

My hosting needs are trivial. A larger business could easily include sustainability as one criterion among several and a green option may well stand out.
